Aetrium was founded as Automated Electronic Technology Inc. (AET) in 1982 to develop and sell gravity test handlers for surface mount IC devices. In 1983 AET developed and installed the industry's first surface mount gravity test handler. In 1986, the company was renamed Aetrium. Aetrium became a publicly held company in 1993 with its successful IPO. The same year, Aetrium entered the market for reliability test products used by the semiconductor industry. As a market leader, Aetrium has continually developed and released new products to the market place for both product lines - IC handlers and reliability test systems.
